Nutritious, Microwave Plantain Chips (A Healthy Alternative to Potato Chips)

Even though I try to eat healthy most of the time, I can't resist eating Potato chips. When I was searching around for healthy alternative to Potato chips, my mom gave me this recipe. Its nutritious and easy to make.

First of all, lets see what is Plantain:
Plantain is a member of the banana family. It's a starchy, low in sugar variety that is cooked/baked before serving as it is unsuitable raw. It is used in many savory dishes as a replacement of potato and is very popular in Western Africa and the Caribbean countries.

Plantain Nutrition information:
- Good source of Potassium and Vitamin A & C
- High in Diatery Fiber
- Energy Booster (High Carbohidrate)

Preparation time: 15 mins.

Ingredients:
1 Plaintain (Any variety)
Flavoring - Your choice (I chose Salt & Pepper and Salt)

This Microwave version recipe is very quick and easy. Whenever I crave for chips, I make them instantly using Microwave version.

Procedure:
1. Slice the plantain using Mandoline
2. Keep a bowl of water and put all the sliced plantain chips into it(to prevent the color change)
3. Parboil it for 3-4 mins (half cooked)
4. Place all the chips in a paper towel and pat dry
5. Take a microwave safe plate and grease the plate with non-stick spray
6. Place all the chips and spray the flavoring.
7. Microwave on High for 3 mins or until you see a brown spot in some chips (Microwave time varies)
8. Serve with your favorite dip.

Tips:
- For thick chips: Slice the plantain with knife, parboil them for 5 mins, add flavors, and bake them at 350F for 12 mins. (But this one needs at least 30 mins to bake the chips.
- You can use any flavor you want: Sweet, barbeque, taco seasoning, pepper or anything you want.
- You can use banana for sweet chips
